Coity Higher Community Council Community Award 2016 Winners
By Clerk // February 27th, 2017
Coity Higher Community Council recently held their Annual Community Award 2016 presentation and this year there were two very worthy winners as the Community Council could not choose between them. Both winners agreed to share the main shield for six months each, and were given an engraved smaller shield to keep, the winners and their partners were also presented with flowers and a bottle of wine.
The award recognizes achievement or work or activities which benefit the Community of Coity Higher which includes the wards of Coity, Litchard and Pendre.
Mrs Linda Knight
Since moving back to the village three and a half years ago Mrs Knight and her family have run the Six Bells pub which is a vital part of the community. In this time she has organised many fundraising events and allowed others to do so on her premises. Amongst others, she has raised hundreds of pounds for Ty Hafan, allowed others to run events which have also raised hundreds of pounds for local charities such as Marie Curie, Ellie’s Journey, Meningitis Now and associated with the local school at ‘Big Lunch’ events, amongst others. In addition, the pub has supported the pub quiz for several years and every penny raised goes to local charities. Mrs Knight also encourages community spirit via social media, puts on complementary refreshments for international sporting events and over the Christmas season.
Unfortunately Mrs Linda Knight could not attend the presentation and therefore her son, David, represented her and accepted the award and gifts on her behalf. Mr Knight can be seen here accepting the award from the Chair of the Community Council, Councillor Hopkin Thomas.
Mr Alun Clemett
Alun has been a constant member of many community organisations within Coity village. His many roles include former Chairman of Coity Village Association, founder of Coity Football club, former Community Councillor, he’s a school governor at Coety Primary School and a lead member of the annual fundraising Choirs in the Castle team, he has been part of this team since its inception and the group has raised over £15,000 for local causes over the years. Over the many years at CVA events whether it’s a bonfire or fete, Alun has been one of the first to arrive and one of the last to leave, whatever the weather. During his time as a school governor he has played an important role in school affairs, sometimes helping with teacher interviews and other times being Santa Claus! Recently he appeared on stage in the village panto.
Mr Clemett and his wife, Della, can be seen here accepting their gifts from the Vice-Chair of the Community Council, Councillor Ella Dodd.
